You must have a Searsmont Transfer Station vehicle sticker

in order to use the Transfer station. You can purchase one

at the Transfer Station or the Town Office.

Vehicle stickers cost $1.00.

Trash Bags can be purchased at the Town Office or the Transfer Station during their regular hours.   The bags come in two sizes, and are purchased in prepackaged units:

Kitchen size:           10 for $5

30 Gallon :                 5 for $5

 

$1 per bag (for bags up to 33 gallons).

Bag stickers will no longer be available after November 24.  You may continue to use those you have purchased until they are gone, but must  now transition to bags. (11/14/07)

RECYCLING PROGRAM
TO RECYCLE THESE ITEMS:
Batteries
Cell phone and cordless tool batteries weighing 2 pounds or less
Newspaper
Place in newspaper container. Do not put string or brown bags into container.
Magazines, Catalogues, Phone Books
Mix in with the newspapers - this constitutes the "Maine Mix". Please, no manila envelopes or file folders, no plastic or junk mail
Tin and Aluminum Cans
Clean and place in the plastic bins. Labels may be left on.
#2 Plastic
CLEAN milk jugs and other #2 plastics only may be placed in plastic bin. NO YOGURT CONTAINERS.
Glass Bottles and Jars
Clean and place in plastic bins. NO WINDOW GLASS, POTTERY OR CRUSHED GLASS.
Cardboard
Corrugated cardboard must be cut into pieces no larger than 3' x 3'. Please flatten boxes. Place in cardboard container. No boxboard. PLEASE REMEMBER TO REMOVE ALL STYROFOAM OR OTHER PACKING MATERIAL.
Brush
Homeowners may bring brush. No leaves or grass cuttings.
Non-alkaline Rechargeable Batteries
Under 2 lbs may be dropped off with the attendant for free recycling.
Tires Under 16" Without Rims
Two rimless tires under 16" in diameter may be dropped off at the transfer station per household per week at $1/tire.
TO DISPOSE OF THE FOLLOWING:
White Goods
Old metal white goods : stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners and freezers, that DO NOT CONTAIN FREON may be taken to Gene Newton in Belmont. Call first 342-5306.
Clothing
Old clothing can be dropped off during store hours at the Thrift Shop on High Street in Belfast or at Goodwill in Rockland, Augusta, or Bangor.
Batteries and Motor Oil

Batteries, Motor Oil and Transmission Fluids may be taken to Totman Enterprises on New England Road. Call to make arrangements for dropoff at 342-4346.

DO NOT DROP OFF IN YARD WITHOUT PERMISSION. Motor oil and transmission fluids must be free of contaminents. Batteries cannot be leaking fluid.

Transfer Station Hours

Year round

Saturday

8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Wednesdays

Closed for the winter.

The transfer station will be closed if there is a major snowstorm on a Friday night or Saturday due to issues with plowing.


IT IS ILLEGAL TO BURN TRASH IN BACK YARD BURN BARRELS, CAMPFIRES, OUT OF DOOR FIREPLACES AND INCINERATORS. IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL TO BURN PLASTICS SUCH AS VINYL IN DEMO DEBRIS PILES. THIS IS NOW STATE LAW BECAUSE OF HEALTH RISKS DUE TO BURNING TRASH.
