June 2009:  Construction has begun on the Mill Bridge over the St. George River in Searsmont Village.  This construction will change the intersection of New England Road and Route 131/173, making it a T-intersection and removing the island.  The bridge will be moved 17 feet upstream and the suface will be 4 feet higher than the old bridge.  The house at 2 New England Road will be razed.   A side walk for pedestrian traffic will be part of the new bridge, improving pedestrian safety.  Click here to view the construction plan.

December 2009--Bridge construction has halted for the winter , and the stop lights remain in place, but unused, for now. Work is not yet complete and will resume in the Spring.
